About Us

The Dermatology Center of Indiana, PC is a unique private practice center providing a wide variety of medical, surgical, and cosmetic services for all adults and children. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding clinical services in a comfortable and caring environment that emphasizes patients and their needs first. We offer early morning appointments and our location is an easy drive from multiple locations in Central and Western Indiana and Eastern Illinois.

Dr. Scott T. Guenthner, MD

Dr. Scott T. Guenthner, MD founded Dermatology Center of Indiana, PC, in February, 2002. Born in Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Guenthner obtained his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He was an early inductee and officer in the University of Iowa chapters of both Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. These two organizations are the highest honors an undergraduate and medical student can obtain academically. Dr. Guenthner was also awarded the Hancher–Finkbine Medallion as a fourth-year medical student. This medallion is awarded to outstanding students who achieved highly both academically as well as have been tremendous leaders on campus during their education.

Following medical school, Dr. Guenthner completed a transitional internship at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then completed a three-year Dermatology residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis where he served as the Chief Resident.

Dr. Guenthner is board certified as a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is also a member of the Indiana Academy of Dermatology.

Beyond dermatology, Dr. Guenthner served on the board of the University of Iowa Alumni Association and was named the 2001 University of Iowa Alumni Association National Volunteer of the Year. In addition, Dr. Guenthner, an Eagle Scout, volunteers locally for the Boy Scouts of America.

Dr. Guenthner is married to Shannon (Powell) Guenthner, a 1998 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in social work. They have five wonderful children, Evan, Grace, Katherine, Margaret, and Matthew. As a family, they are heavily involved in the local community with children in various sports leagues and activities such as soccer and basketball, competitive horseback riding and dance. Philanthropically committed to the metropolitan area as well, the Guenthner Family supports various organizations such as the Indianapolis Zoo, Traders Point Christian Church, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, the Hendricks County Community Foundation, the Indiana Sports Corporation, the Miss Indiana Pageant, and Sycamore School.

Dr. Shayna L. Gordon, MD

Dr. Shayna L. Gordon grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis where she obtained a B.A. in Biology. Dr. Gordon earned her medical degree from Indiana University and completed her internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She completed her dermatology residency at Washington University School of Medicine where she served as Chief Resident. Following residency, she completed a combined Procedural Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Gordon joined The Dermatology Center of Indiana in the summer of 2017.

Her areas of expertise include Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancers, cutaneous oncology, and cosmetic dermatology. Her cosmetic practice includes Botox, aesthetic injectables and fillers, and lasers.

Dr. Gordon is a board–certified dermatologist and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor’s Society.

Dr. Gordon’s publications include research papers, book chapters, scientific abstracts, and clinical reviews.

Outside of her medical career, Dr. Gordon is happily married and in her free time enjoys running and painting. She happy to return to Indianapolis and once again call Indiana home.

Dr. Barbara R. Strum, MD

Dr. Barbara Sturm brings 26 years of medical experience through her service to the community in private practice of dermatology. She enjoys teaching medical residents and participates in resident education lectures. She was voted “Teacher of the Year” in 2008 by the St Francis Family Residency Program and “Top Doc” by peers since 2003.

In the community, she has been a member of the Stones Crossing Church since 1999. Working in youth ministry, she has served as a teacher and youth sponsor and currently serves on the board of directors for Spectrum Ministries, a Christian youth ministry in Greenwood.

Dr. Sturm graduated from Southport High School and then went on to Purdue, majoring in biochemistry. She obtained her MD degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine where she then completed her residency in dermatology.

She has enjoyed 36 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart and has 2 grown children and 4 precious grandchildren. She and her husband enjoy traveling, camping, and bicycling.

Dr. Barbara R. Strum, MD

Audrey Hewitt, Physician Assistant – C

Audrey Hewitt, PA-C joined the Dermatology Center of Indiana in June of 2016 with over four years of experience in the field of dermatology. She is a board certified Physician Assistant and obtained her Master’s Degree of Physician Assistant Studies from Butler University in 2012. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Audrey treats general medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology conditions. She has extensive experience with a variety of cosmetic lasers. Audrey lives in Castleton with her husband Chris and son Wallace. She has two large breed dogs and enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors and watching movies.

Dennae Dalton, Physician Assistant - C

Dennae joined The Dermatology Center of Indiana in November 2015 with over 10 years of experience in the field of dermatology. She is a certified Physician Assistant and completed her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant studies at the University of St. Francis in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 2004. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Dennae treats general medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology conditions and sees patients at both our Plainfield and Zionsville locations. She has extensive experience with a number of cosmetic lasers as well as BOTOX®. Dennae enjoys running, reading, gardening, and traveling in her spare time.

Brittany LaFree, Physician Assistant – C

Brittany is a board-certified physician assistant who provides quality care to patients with a wide variety of dermatologic diseases and concerns. Experiencing her own struggles with skin and appearance has led her to this career in dermatology where she is able to help patients feel more comfortable in their skin. When she is with her patients, she is completely focused on them and their issues, providing reassurance and solutions. In return, patients voice their appreciation for taking the time to discuss diagnosis and treatment, answering their questions, alleviating their concerns, and helping them achieve the confidence they desire.

A Graduate from Butler University, Brittany has her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Master of Physician Assistant Studies. She has been working in the medical field since 2009 and joined the Dermatology Center of Indiana in 2017.

Brittany LaFree, Physician Assistant – C

What makes Brittany unique is the way she handles things that life throws at her – by being positive, looking for ways to make a negative situation better, and trying to find ways to motivate others. Her grandma Ada taught her to always have a smile on her face, whether it’s sunny or cloudy.

Brittany enjoys being active and social, spending time with her family of four (well, 8 including pets), and although she has lived in Indiana her entire life, she loves to cheer for the Chicago Bears and Cubs! At least she does love to go to Notre Dame football games.

Jeremy, Nurse Practitioner – BC

Jeremy joined The Dermatology Center of Indiana in August of 2015. He is a board–certified nurse practitioner having obtained his NP degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2014.  Prior to his work as nurse, Jeremy served as a pastor for 11 years and still teaches at times in the children’s program and for adult classes at his church.  Prior to joining the Dermatology Center of Indiana, Jeremy worked in an Urgent Care setting. 

Jeremy has been married to a wonderful lady for 17 years. Most of his friends wonder how in the world he was able to marry someone that is way out of my league!  Jeremy and his wife have 4 healthy children aged 5-13.  During his spare time he enjoys teaching at the local church, being an avid reader, fishing in the creek with his boys, swimming in the pool, and hauling his kids to their various activities.
